Apartment Table

For those folks who have yet to join the “Billionaires Club”, New York apartments are notoriously expensive and notoriously small. This table and benches were designed for such an interior. The table is 28 ½ inches high with a 25 ½ inch square top which is somewhat better than a table for two in a local restaurant. The bench seats are less confining than the usual chair. As well, benches in place of chairs offer more flexibility in that, placed end to end, they offer more for guest seating or use as a utility surface.

The Southern Yellow Pine has a brightness about its color and a strong expressiveness in its grain which speaks to its essential everyday use. The grain on the square top is positioned diagonally giving something of a trompe l’oeil to the size of the piece, in that it emphasizes the longest dimension of the square. Positioning the grain in this way gives a similar grain pattern on all four edges of the top.
